[ Rain does not quite pour down from the sky in the way it did during the previous month. It does come, though, in short bursts to keep the ground hydrated. This summer will be hot, she thinks, coming home from a market run: Eggs, milk, fruit, and admittedly something Zelda is not sure she should indulge in, but a craving for fruit cake had struck her in the last few hours. It's late enough that traveling in the dark and in the rain isn't an ideal condition, and she realizes she might have to invest in a lantern sooner than later.
When her cabin comes into view, the lights are on. At first, her stomach drops, imagining that someone's broken in. Soon enough, however, she recalls having a spare made for a certain someone.
The door opens with a jingle; the little wind chime she'd picked out clinking together as Zelda opens her door, bags in her arms. ]
How are you?
[ That's her greeting tonight, setting down the bags. ] If I'd known you would be coming over, I would have come back sooner from the shops. [ She pauses, digging into one bag. ] I hope you have not been waiting long on me.
Welcome home. [ nier rings out as she steps through the door. the scent of cooked meat whirls about the air, and there’s a meal to trace it back to splayed across the table — the house itself seems to be free of any dirt or dust, with everything having been organized nearly and put in its proper place.
there is a gentle, cordial smile furled along his lips. ]
It’s alright. I wanted you to take your time. [ on the coffee table is something unusual — it’s a long, thin wooden box, hardy and accompanied with a healthy sheen. ]
[ Her curiosity is piqued, but she wants to look prim and proper, so Zelda quietly puts away the groceries. ]
I see you cleaned.
[ The meal is appreciated and once she's finished with the groceries, the polite thing to do is eat. As such, she sits to tuck into it, but looking across the way she sees her writing desk, and remembers a note a friend left her. ]
Not really. [ the answer comes easily, and he leans onto one of his elbows, the fabric of the white (and open) dress shirt he’s wearing brushing up against the surface. ]
Cleaning is natural for me. Like drinking or sleeping. I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember.
[ As expected, he's not a snoop. If he read even half of the things she wrote about him... she has a distinct feeling that he would not be so calm in his body language or state of dress. Eating gives her enough of an excuse not to look. ]
Perhaps I am used to the furnishings of the castle. [ A beat. There's a fondness in her voice, all the same: She doesn't miss the castle, though she does miss Hyrule. ]
[ that inkling of a feeling registers in his mind — the consequence of their bond. ah, it’s vague and misty, a little heavy as well. suspicion. a classic. ]
If I looked through any of your things, I’d just tell you. [ he says leisurely. ]
I have a few experiences with castles too. Too big.
[ a shake of the head. ]
But if you want to expand your cabin, we can work towards it... [ two blinks. ] It’s nice to see you too?
I had thought as much... [ She pauses briefly, then continues in the same tone: Nonchalant. ] I keep notes of a scientific nature as well as... personal. [ He knows what she means.... a diary. ] It was read recently. I had thought that perhaps you would have told me or asked about it if you had, though the thought did strike me.
[ She stabs a piece of meat with a fork. ] I apologize.
[ As for his other question... which isn't a question, to be fair. It's almost an observation. ]
I... simply wanted to let you know that I appreciate your presence.
That's actually very endearing? No one has ever wanted to do something like that for her. Her ears seem to droop and she looks away from him, cheeks glowing with heat. ]
Perhaps you could. In fact... I have no doubt about that. Even so, I believe he has learned a lesson. He apologized.
You needn't do that... [ She says after a pause, swallowing down the last of her meal. ] I won't say the gesture is not appreciated, however.
[ With a smile, she tilts her head and moves towards the box, no longer feeling the need to hide her curiosity. ]
If you are curious about my thoughts on something, you need only ask, Nier. I would be happy to share them with you. But you must do the same with me. Is that agreeable?

He better mean it. There won’t be a next time. Not for him or anyone else either.

[ She is, admittedly, embarrassed by it. In the end, can she blame him for reading it when it was there? No, even as it bothers her. ]
I can hardly imagine anyone would have interest in the inner machinations of my mind. A prank gone wrong, I presume.
