[ frisk very delicately and meticulously arranges the blankets, patting it down to make it even in spots. they tug here and there, adjusting it so that nier's covered.

[ it really is like being with toriel, even if this is space, and not a house, and also not a bed. frisk feels warm and just a little bit tired. they think idly about the dirt under their fingernails and what a long day they had using soil as playdoh. they hope no one messes with their little figures of dirt and pink goo, shaped like people they know - they're hidden somewhere frisk thought they'd be safe to dry until they're ready to be harvested for gifting.
maybe. if they ever dry.
they don't need bedtime stories but they don't want to make nier think they don't want him to talk or something, so frisk nods. they're just old enough to think they've outgrown a story, but in truth: well, a story always makes going to sleep a lot more fun. ]
[ nier straightens his back, leaning against the wall behind them. the blanket hovers over them like a makeshift tent, entrapping them in their own bubble.

There was a sheep. Life wasn't always easy for the small sheep...it was weak and slow, so one day, so its parents left them behind as they were travelling across the plains.
The sheep cried out for help. It was lonely. It didn't know how to fight or find food for itself. The sheep cried until its stomach started rumbling. It realized it had spent an entire day crying. Suddenly, it realized that if it kept crying, something bad would happen. The sheep got up and travelled as far as its legs could take it. It got very tired, but it still keep going, determined to find a nice apple to eat.
The sheep wandered into a bustling village on accident. The townspeople were shocked, but they noticed that the sheep was hungry and fed it some grass. The sheep's energy was replenished. It thought that maybe it had found a new home, but the village seemed to be struggling. They worried that they wouldn't be able to feed or take care of the sheep with how things were looking...
As the sheep tried to sleep that night, it heard a story about a flower that could grant any wish. It was called a Lunar Tear. It was the hardest flower to grow in the world — but the sheep thought that if it could find the Lunar Tear, the townspeople would be able to make a home for it.
The ship travelled far and wide for the Lunar Tear. It was a hard journey, and it took a long time. But eventually, the sheep found the Lunar Tear in a place far away from the village. The journey back was even harder. But it made the sheep stronger and faster. Now, it could survive anywhere.
The sheep brought the Lunar Tear back to the village. And from that day and onward, the people prospered thanks to the strong and nimble sheep.
The End.

[ listening to this story, frisk can't imagine sleeping. so although their eyes are closed and they're tucked in nice and tight, they imagine this lunar tear. they think it must be like a rose of some kind, because those are fancy flowers. and a hard to grow flower the grants wishes must be the fanciest of all. at the same time ... they wonder if such a flower could be called by a name.
so they think about this sheep, and they think about this flower, and with the lunar tear shaped in their mind they think about what kind of sheep wouldn't have a home. it's abandoned, and can't even do something like fend for itself... it must be young. they can imagine a sheep like that climbing...

I grew them myself.

Sometimes.
[ he smiles, just a bit sadly. ]
There are some wishes that can't be granted. But you don't need them to be happy.
